2017 Port Harcourt Polo Tournament Tees Off January 8-14

The organizers of the 2017 Port Harcourt Polo Tournament says the stage is now set for the tee-off of the annual event which will attract the best polo players in Nigeria and beyond.

Tournament Organizing Manager, Ibifiri Bob-Manuel while addressing sports journalists at the Port Harcourt Polo Club penultimate Monday, said the 2017 Tournament will stand out as it marked the centenary edition of the annual fiesta.

Bob-Manuel said the tournament would be bigger and unique as it would be used to showcase the beauty and opportunities that abound in Rivers State.

He disclosed that no less than 10 teams would feature from Port Harcourt; with about 20 clubs coming from other parts of the country while teams are also expected from the United States, United Kingdom, South Africa, Argentina and United Arab Emirate.

Another striking feature, according to Mr. Bob-Manuel was the fact that the 2017 edition of the tournament would see a 'unified tourney' as teams from the Nigerian Polo Federation and Nigeria Polo Association would jointly participate.

Also speaking during the media briefing, Secretary of the Fund Raising Committee, Mr. Chukwudi Dimkpa enthused that the tournament would go one despite the current economic recession.

He said the recession would not pose a threat to the tournament as the committee had thought outside the box to raise the needed funds.

Dimkpa, the Managing Director of Rivers State Signage and Advertisement Agency (RISAA) said he was upbeat that his RISAA Polo Club had what it takes to clinch the lion prize in the tournament, adding that some of those he described as traditional sponsors of the tournament were responding positively to ensure a world class tournament come 2017.
