Happy New Year Outstanding Fellows! Coming on board some couple of months ago, we were tasked with the tall and demanding responsibility of taking the helm at the Association of Obio/Akpor Youths (AOY). Saddling the top echelon of a crisis torn and dismembered organization, the cardinal assignments were restoring peace, ensuring genuine reconciliation and to midwife the emergence of an across board accept democratically elected executive, devoid of political, sectional or regional favouritism.
So far, we can proudly say that genuine peace, the spirit of oneness and the bond of brotherliness, which was the trademark of our dear organization, has been revived and solidly restored.
Also strengthened and enhanced are the publicity, public visibility, partnership and public relations of this frontline and prestigious youth organization of ours.
In the past months, we have been able to collaborate and partner with parent bodies, other youth organizations and institutions in programmes that are centered on building human capacity and preparing our young minds and lives for a brighter future. These modest feats were not achieved and attained without sacrifices, solidarity and inestimable support from all members. Indeed, your support and prayers are the bedrock and springboard for the attainment of our collective vision and mission.
In the past year, brilliant successes were recorded alongside some shortcomings. Some oversight blunders and neglects may have been associated with this administration in the period under review. One notable of mention with unreserved apology was not availing members the window to gather together to mark the end of the year 2016. However, this was hinged on reasons that project and protect the best interests of the organization.
Our biggest testimony and note of thanksgiving are that irrespective of the deep and protracted existence-threatening power tussle that held the organization at the jugular, AOY didn't end with 2016. AOY made it! AOY survived it!!
This year 2017 holds great and brighter prospects for our organization, the Association of Obio/Akpor Youths (AOY).
The last month of last year, December 2016, was very demanding and preoccupying with a lot of boardroom and drawing board policy making and planning. Efforts, inputs and brainstorming during this period gave birth to a set of emerging sustainable framework which, in the nearest future, will see to every committed online and physical AOY member receiving monthly earnings and stipends for promoting the organization and her activities online and physically. Also expected in the first quarter of this year is the full return and streaming of all online programmes earlier introduced on AOY platform. These online enlightenment, educating and informative programmes have been carefully repackaged to be most electrifying and engaging once it hits the cyberspace. Most importantly, by God's infinite mercies and grace, on the 29th day of January 2017, we will be experiencing the emergence of the very first democratically elected executive of the organization, which will reflect the general wishes and choice of members in a free and fair contest.
We urge and implore everyone to continue to have our organization and her leadership in their daily prayers and thoughts.
All hands are welcome on deck to help achieve the lofty dreams of Association of Obio/Akpor Youths (AOY).
May this be a very peaceful and beyond-bounds prosperous year for us all.
